Today's archidose #631

Here are some photos of the Galaxy Soho in Beijing, China, by Zaha Hadid Architects (2012), photographed by Ben Lepley. (Previously I featured the project under construction.)

  1. Whenever I see structures designed like these I can't help but be filled with wonder and awe how they get built. Just imagine how thick the complete plans are for these considering that every floor is a different size compared to the others as compared to the more usual buildings where most of the floors are of the same size and probably even layout which the architects/engineers can just indicate on the plans something like "Floor Plan - Second Floor to 16th Floor". Then there's the thing about translating what's on the plans in the real space/world and everything that goes into making it happen. Some people may find what I've just said trivial, but when you really think about it, it's really mind-boggling!
